After many of you here recommended GoodNotes, I bought it.
I also have Notability if that makes any difference was using that prior to GoodNotes. A lot better. PDF expert is a pure pdf app. Use one for notes one for pdf and annotation. GoodNotes creates a version of the PDF in the app. PDF expert lets you access your hand written notes on other devices that way, since the writing is saved directly in the PDF. I personally use both. Sorry off topic; do you prefer GoodNotes over Notability and why?
I'm thinking of buying GoodNotes after some people have claimed the writing experience is better. Is the difference as big as Notability and OneNote in terms of input lag? I've been using Notability exclusively for school, and I really like GoodNotes individual notebooks but it's not enough for me to justify buying GoodNotes unless it's leaps better.
GoodNotes lets you search your handwritten notes and convert them to text. I also feel that GoodNotes has a better organization system, and has the ability to mix different styles of paper within the same notebook. I feel that it's a bit more full-featured than Notability.
However, Notability is great too and lets you record voice notes and such to complement your notes so that can be useful in a classroom environment.
Depending on where you are, this may or may not be in breach of your student contract. Both apps are fantastic and work really well with the Apple Pencil, so it's difficult for me to say that one is truly better than the other, but if I had to pick I would go with GoodNotes - it just seems more like a complete note-taking app for my uses. I find the simple annotation workflow in GoodNotes to be more intuitive, but the crucial difference is that you can not only annotate a PDF in PDF Expert, you can actually edit the file itself.
